Top 5 Computer AntiVirus Review 2014

Just like all my reviews and ratings, it should be noted that opinions differ, but the ratings are based on experience and actual function of the product and in this case Antivirus. Thinking of getting yourself an antivirus for your new computer or replacing your old antivirus or you just want to try something new, whatever being the case we are in the century where almost all our computers are connected to the internet 24/7 and makes it 100% virus prone exposing you to malwares, spywares, malicious Trojans and the likes. All the below antiviruses are free versions and as reliable as you can get but can be purchased for additional features

1. AVG Anti-Virus Free ( Edition 2014) : Anti-Virus Guard (AVG) has been one of the standout free antivirus since its launch in 1992. It provides lot of features including periodic scans, scans of sent and received emails, repair some affected files, some virus-infected files, and a quarantine area: “virus vault/chest” in some infected files are kept, all in the free version and protects and guard your machine from all kind of viruses, often updated, making it fight the most latest version of virus on the internet or anywhere it could be affected  from, the 2014 version comes with a more user friendly interface and most importantly uses less memory in its background operations unlike others which tends to slow down your computer and reduce gaming experience.

2. Avast 2014 :  Avast antivirus formerly known as 'ALWIL Software' is also a long standing antivirus software with a good performance which does basically everything needed to have a virus free computer, and like AVG can upgrade to the pro for more features. It uses a PUSH service to make updates automatically. One major strength about avast is the ability to detect 'false positive'  viruses which makes softwares  possessing such properties to function without it any interruption. Avast! 2014 Free Antivirus offers real-time protection and scheduled scanning to deal with a full range of malware threats. It includes configurable protection against threats found on web pages, and those arriving through mail or seen in the local file system of the computer.

3. Norton internet security : Norton antivirus comes third on my list with a great improvement in the 2014 version and as always, scored above 96% in the AV-TEST. It also scans installed software in the background, it also include a personal firewall, email spam filtering , and phishing protection. It has Identity Theft Protection as part of its features, the only reason why its down the pecking order is the memory it uses in its operations, tho its better than bitdefender in my opinion.

4. Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition : A very compact, robust antivirus comes with a very user friendly interface and few clicking menus that makes operating it very easy so if simple is your taste then BitDefender is the name to call, it does real time scans and periodical scheduled scans, antiphishing protection, and will be a recommended option for a machine of with enough space and memory.
5. Avira: A little complex interface with a first glance, but an effective choice apart from popping up unnecessary notifications sometimes. constantly monitors the pc, remove threats and does what is expected of any free antivirus, but also sometimes have effect on the pc performance whiles scanning in the background.
