Once in a while we either acquire a new computer or because of various reasons, decide or forced to change our current Operating system to a more current or previous version. In cases like this, we always tend to have the hustle thinking of what to install and which software is a necessity at the give point in time.
This post will outline my top 5 picks for windows softwares to choose and install after a fresh installation.
AntiVirus - Any antivirus of your choice should be considered as the first application to install after a fresh installation. The reason for this is very obvious, you do not want to start a new life with your installation with a virus, this does not help in any way. My recommendation for an antivirus can be found here, although it is a little outdated, I will still recommend AVG.
WinRar - After you protect your computer with an antivirus, my next recommended step is to install WinRar software, the all in one ARJ, BZIP2, CAB, GZ, ISO, JAR, LHA, RAR, TAR, UUE, XZ, Z, ZIP, ZIPX, 7z. Unpacker is a valuable tool for further proceedings, as in many occasions, will prove to be useful in the earliest moments and in the long run of your installations. With WinRar yo do not have to bother in a zip file, RAR or img file you have downloaded from the internet will unpack for installation or not.
Browser - Mostly, the first thing people will get is to download a
browser using their pre-installed Microsoft edge browser, I would not
highly recommend this as a top priority but since this is inevitable, I
will just add it as third item to consider. Currently, chrome is the
highest used browser, and it is for all the good reasons. Good old
firefox is also in the race and has its own loyal users. But maybe give
the default Microsoft Edge browser a chance since it has hugely improved
in recent updates.
Media Player - Windows Media Player is the last media player you would like to use, this I totally do not recommend, as a huge fun of VLC, I never forget to install one on my computer after a fresh installation, just think of a random video or audio file format and VLC will without hesitation, play it with ease, for free, it has stayed number one for many years and looks like the position will be held for long.
Office Pack - Depending on the user, Microsoft office pack can be hugely beneficial and regardless of the user, never useless. All documents for day to day activities can be opened and edited when you have th Microsoft Office pack which includes;
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft OneNote
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Publisher
- Microsoft Access
- Skype for Business
among others.
Miscellaneous -
- Unchecky-
automatically watches check boxes during software installation and
makes sure you don’t install any third-party junk. Everyone misses these
sometimes, so it helps to have a second set of eyes.
TreeSize Free- allows you to quickly analyze your storage usage and see which folders are taking up the most space.
- Ditto Clipboard Manager-
increases the usefulness of the Windows clipboard many times over. With
it, you can keep dozens of copied entries close at hand and search
through your clipboard history.
- Everything-
provides near-instant search to your entire Windows system. If you need
to locate a file and the default search isn’t doing the job, Everything
can find it.
- F.lux-
automatically filters blue light from your PC’s screen when the sun
goes down, allowing you to continue working at night without a blinding
light in your face. Windows 10 has a similar Night Light function
built-in, but F.lux offers more customization.
